The goal of this broadband speed testing project is to identify gaps in networks that may be causing slow or unreliable internet. partnering with the Government of Alberta to assess the quality and speed of internet in select Alberta communities. The goal of this broadband speed testing project is to identify gaps in networks that may be causing slow or unreliable internet.
By gathering data on residents' internet speed, we can explore solutions that will update networks or enhance the connectivity in rural communities.
This research is specifically looking at the accuracy of the federal government's National Broadband Internet Service Availability Map, which plays a key role in determining which communities are eligible for infrastructure funding.
By participating in this speed testing project, Albertans may help unlock funding for new broadband builds, which will improve internet access in their local area. This access is important, as high speed internet can lead to educational opportunities, economic growth, and improved quality of life for all residents.
Cybera is a trusted not-for-profit agency that is working with the Government of Alberta to understand why so many Albertans are experiencing poor internet speeds, despite service reports that show their area is adequately covered.
For 30 years, Cybera has served as Alberta’s research and education network facilitator, responsible for driving connections, collaborations and skills growth through the use of digital technology. Our vision is to ensure a connected, secure and equitable digital future for every Albertan.
